Article n°3 : Tenth Anniversary of the Euro vs Will the euro survive?

Almost ten years ago, on 1st January 2002, euro banknotes and coins were introduced in 12 Member States of the European Union. Since then, five more Member States have adopted the euro in recent years.

The tenth anniversary is on January 1st. The big question is :

 Will the euro survive ?

Few days ago, the leaders of France and Germany have agreed a master plan for imposing budget discipline across the euro zone, saying the EU treaty will need to be changed in the search for a sweeping solution to its debt crisis.

Recently,  the ratings agency Standard & Poor’s added to the urgency by announcing it is considering downgrading its credit rating of the Euro zone as a whole, including Germany, if a solution is not reached soon.

This article shows us the plight of Europe, but especially in the euro area. This highlights the fact that the crisis is not only the problem of Ireland or Greece, but it is everyone’s problem. If the euro collapses, it’s all euro area countriesthat will collapse, and their savings with them.

My opinion is that the biggest problem is how to find an agreement between the countries of the euro area. Time is short, we must act quickly and well. I think we’ll know more about the next few months.

This is a situation and a subject that scare me a little. I thought the euro was a strong currency, and I thought it could not weaken … I begin to doubt…
